Remained unaltered until today, many of the house’s formulation include the storage area, the outside structure made of bricks and tiles with Bat Trang bricks covered floor are the proof of ancient architect. The house is kept cool in summer and warm in winter thanks to the use of jack-fruit trees, hard timber interior furniture with thick-layer roofs and wooden walls.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, the house strongly represents features of Oriental philosophy, such as the structure with three beams around (representing heaven, earth and humans), the five round blocks (representing metal, wood, water, fire and earth – the five basic natural factors in Eastern philosophy), the unique decorated mosaic walls of the house and various decorative carved objects on the border of the roof and furniture are the mixture of Vietnamese, Japanese as well as Chinese factors.

 Two erect panels next to the Tan Ky House’s main courtyard, which are carved with parallel sentences is the highlight architect amongst various famous pieces inside the house. Each stroke of writing representing a bird and the total number of birds represented perfectly reaching to one hundred is what makes all tourists coming here excited.
