Right after entering the Cave, in the middle of the grotto, you will easily find a stone statue of a lying girl with her long let-down hair hopelessly looking to the outside. Virgin cave legend bears a slight tendency of a tragic love story. Legend has it that once upon a time, there was a very beautiful girl born in a poor fishing family. Due to the difficult living conditions, they had to work for a cruel man who governed all the fishing area. The cruel man enamored the exquisite beauty of the girl, thus forced her to become his concubine. The poor girl drastically refused as her lover was offshore fishing to prepare for their wedding. Could not have that girl, so angry, the man decided to punish the poor girl by banishing her to an isolated island. Eventually, the girl was starved as well as exhausted and she died and petrified in one rainy night.

When the girl’s fiance heard the news, he immediately rowed to look for her. However, because of the fierce storm, his fishing boat was broken in pieces and he drifted on a desert island. Luckily, he saw the girl in the distance as there was a lighting flash. He tried his best to call her name but in the strong wind no one could hear the voice. To draw her attention in hopeless, with a stone in his hand, the lovesick man beat it at the cliff until his hand was bled and he died of exhaustion. The man also turned to stone (today’s Male Grotto or Hon Trong). Visit Virgin Cave with Halong Bay Cruise
